Abstract

Background: Anemia among adolescent girls remains a public health issue that leads to reduced concentration in school, fatigue, and impaired growth and development. Limited knowledge about anemia is one of the main factors contributing to the high prevalence of anemia among adolescents. Health education through posters is a visual, illustrative, and easily understandable method for improving adolescents’ knowledge. This study aims to analyze the effect of health education via posters on knowledge of anemia among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 1 Cepogo, Boyolali. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study population consisted of seventh- and eighth-grade female students at SMPN 1 Cepogo. The research sample was selected using simple random sampling, resulting in a sample of 70 adolescents. The intervention consisted of health education using illustrative posters about anemia. Data collection was conducted using pre- and post-intervention knowledge questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Before the intervention, the majority of respondents had a knowledge level regarding anemia in the “adequate” category, totaling 53 adolescents (75.71%). After receiving health education using poster media, all respondents experienced an increase in knowledge to the “good” category, totaling 70 adolescents (100%). The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of health education on knowledge of anemia among adolescent girls. Conclusion: Health education using poster media is effective in improving knowledge of anemia among adolescent girls. It is recommended that posters be used as an engaging educational tool accompanied by illustrative images and easily implemented in school settings to support anemia prevention efforts.
