The health of a pregnant woman is an important priority, because healthy mother indicates a healthy baby. One of the health problems that needs to be considered is the nutritional condition of pregnant woman. The common nutritional problem for pregnant woman is chronic energy deficiency (CED). The numbers of pregnant woman with CED keeps increasing, in 2023 there are 58 pregnant women with CED at Gunung Lingkas Health Center Tarakan. One of the efforts to overcome this problem is by giving supplementary food. This study aimed to find out the effect of supplementary food on the weight gain of pregnant women with CED at Gunung Lingkas Health Center Tarakan.
Quasi-experimental approach with one group before and after design was used. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with total samples of 30 pregnant women. The dependent variable of this study was the weight of pregnant women, and the independent variable was supplementary food. Paired T- Test was used as the statistic test.
The result of this study indicated that from 30 respondents there were a difference of 4,9kgs of body weight before and after the supplementary food was given, and the paired t-test showed the p value was 0,000 < 0,05 which meant there was an effect of supplementary food on the weight gain of pregnant women. It can be concluded that supplementary food gives a positive impact on pregnant women with CED which is a weight gain. It is recommended for pregnant women with CED to be consistent in consuming the supplementary food and to maintain a healthy diet with balanced nutrition as recommended.
